Announcing blog change to African narratives: Recently, I decided to shift the focus of this blog. From now on, my reflections will mainly focus on African narratives and stories rather than just personal development. I aim to delve into our psychology as Africans and to examine how we see ourselves as a people, how we show up, process the world around us, and how the stories we tell about ourselves and our nations shape the global perception of Africa.
In essence, this blog is now dedicated to exploring African narratives.
Why Blog Change to African Narratives?
For far too long, Africa's stories have often been told by individuals who are not always African themselves. And as we know, stories are often told from the storyteller's perspective, and they also tend to mirror their objectives. Historically, most stories or narratives about the continent have often come from the perspectives of missionaries, journalists, colonial administrators, and even books. As the world evolves into the era of social media, blogs and other outlets, Africa continues to be depicted by people who have never set foot on the continent.
Unfortunately, such stories tend to align with the objectives and biases of the storytellers, perpetuating a narrative that often fails to reflect our lived reality. This has contributed to a skewed understanding of Africa and one that often overlooks the fact that Africa is diverse and complex, reflected through the continent's achievements and the rich tapestry of our cultures.
We now live in a world of algorithms where sensationalised information or stories are the ones that go viral. And we know that once a narrative has been formed, however far-fetched from the truth, it is difficult to retract; even when the correct information comes to light, it is difficult to erase.
Now more than ever, it is crucial to reclaim and redefine our narratives. We must share our authentic experiences, voices, and perspectives. Because narratives are powerful. They influence how people think, decisions, attitudes, and global perception.
This blog seeks to showcase the diversity of African life, its people's triumphs, struggles, and everything in between. By doing so, I hope to contribute towards a more balanced and nuanced understanding of Africa - one that celebrates our unique identities and cultures and recognises our role in the global narrative.
Join me on this journey as we explore and elevate African stories, amplifying voices that deserve to be heard and perspectives that need to be shared. The world deserves to know the real Africa.
