5 Ways Being Authentic Will Make You Thrive

In this blog, I give you five ways being authentic will make you thrive. First, a suggestion: if you haven't read my blog entitled, Signs You're Thriving, Even If It Doesn't Feel Like It, then please check it out after reading this one and you will understand why.

Because I have matured, I am not ashamed to admit that there was a time when I wanted to be someone else. From where I stood, the person I wanted to be had everything I want - the right complexion, cool friends, the best swagger, the best voice, the best smile, all the things I lacked - or so I thought.

However, with time, I got the benefit of the wisdom that experience brings and realised that I was enough and the best thing I could do for myself to thrive and find fulfilment in life was to embrace myself.

So, here are five ways being authentic will make you thrive:

1. You'll Attract The Right People

When you're true to yourself, you'll attract people who appreciate and value you for who you are. These relationships will be more meaningful and fulfilling because they're built on honesty and authenticity.

Faking a persona is hard; you will exude the wrong kind of energy when you fake. It is hard to connect while faking. You will be caught off-guard and in a lie.

But when you remain true to yourself and who you are at your very core, words or behaviours come naturally to you. That makes you magnetic and people will want to be around you.

2. You'll Have More Energy

Pretending to be something you're not is exhausting. Because rather than focus on what you need to do or say at any given time, you are in your head, analysing your behaviour - the way you talk and walk, everything. That is a curse in itself, and it's draining. When you're not pretending to be someone you're not, you'll have more energy to focus on the things that matter most to you. You'll be able to pursue your passions and interests with greater enthusiasm and vigour.

3. You'll Be More Resilient

You'll be better equipped to handle setbacks and challenges when you're true to yourself. You'll have a stronger sense of self and a deeper understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses, which will help you bounce back from adversity.

When you're authentic, you can dig deep, ask yourself those soul-searching questions, and confront harsh truths. And part of building resilience is having the courage to face yourself and all your flaws.

4. You'll Be Happier

It goes without saying that one of the ways being authentic makes you thrive is happiness. Practising everything I've said so far means you will live and happier and freer life. Living authentically also means feeling more fulfilled and content with your life. You won't constantly strive to meet someone else's expectations or try to be someone you're not. Instead, you'll live a life that's true to your values and desires.

5. You'll Inspire Others

When you embrace yourself and exude that magnetic energy, it lets others know that it is OK for them to be themselves too, especially around you. Your authenticity will be contagious and positively influence those around you. It also helps others see that it is OK to be different and pursue their unique path in life.

Because let's face it, the world can be harsh, especially if you are vulnerable enough to show the parts of you that may not conform to the so-called norm. But I've found that even if people find it hard to accept you at first when they see how well you've embraced yourself and your conviction, they are inspired by that. They can't help but want to know more about you and be a part of your community or circle. That's the beauty in that.

Remember, success isn't just about achieving external goals - it's about living a life that's true to your own values and desires. Embrace your authentic self, and you'll thrive in all areas of your life.
